5 Countries in Europe I Need to Revisit and Why

So in my very first post (read it here) I talked about all of the countries I’ve visited so far and I don’t think I mentioned that I have a low key aim to visit 50 countries before I turn 30. That means I need to visit 3 new countries each year before then! Because of this, there’s not a lot of room for trips to countries I’ve already visited but it definitely doesn’t mean I’m ‘done’ with these countries.

There are many more than 5 but below are a selection of countries within our great continent (Europe) that I have indeed been to before, but that I’m most certainly not done with! Read on for my reasons on why these remain on my list.

Italy

ree

Ah, Italy. What a beaming icon of tourism of Europe. I have played my fair share of tourist there. First, a family holiday to Pompeii, Rome, Florence and Venice when I was 11 followed by another when I was 19 to Sorrento, Naples and the Amalfi Coast and then finally when I was 21 another visit to Venice with my boyfriend (how romantic!).

Even though I have had the pleasure of all of these trips, there’s so much in Italy left to explore! There are 2 or 3 main trips I am desperate to find the time to take.

  1. Bologna and the Cinque Terre – Bologna just seems so chill and somewhere I could eat loads of pasta. What more could you want? And then the Cinque Terre is obviously a huge attraction (particularly with non-Europeans I feel?)

  2. Milan and Lake Como – I have seen so many people visit Lake Como and it just looks so dreamy. I want to be staying in some hotel/apartment with a balcony view! And then Milan has the Duomo which is pretty iconic

  3. The Dolomites – Do I even need to explain this one? I love mountains and lakes, the end

Greece

If you’ve read any of my posts, you may know that in 2018 I visited Greece for the first time… and went twice! I spent a week in Santorini in April (read about it here) and a long weekend in Mykonos in October (blog post here). I knew when I booked these trips that I was only scratching the surface of Greece, and I have SO much more I want to see.

Some more islands on my radar:

  • Zakynthos

  • Corfu & Paxi

  • Milos

  • Crete

  • Paros

  • Kos

  • Ios

  • Rhodes

  • Naxos

As well as seemingly endless island paradises, Greece also has a cracking mainland (so I’ve heard…). I definitely want to visit Athens but also ancient Delphi, Meteora and Thessaloniki as some examples.

Switzerland

So Switzerland was my first solo trip (read about it here)! Because it was my first solo trip, I didn’t have a huge idea what I was doing, so there’s definitely a lot more to see in this gorgeous country. My first trip was focused in Zurich, although I did make some day trips. In subsequent trips, I’d like to visit the cities of Geneva and Bern and also the Interlaken area. I definitely need to do more research though, because I know there are many other beautiful spots.

Croatia

ree

Croatia was so high on my list when I visited in 2017 (read my post on it here). I think we did a pretty good job at making the most of our time because on the 10 day trip we managed to visit Dubrovnik, Hvar, Split, Zadar, Krka National Park and Plitvice Lakes National Park. Everywhere we went was gorgeous and I’m very conscious there is so much more beauty here! I’d love to come back to tick off more of the islands (Korcula, Brac, Vis, Mljet) and also go further north to the Istrian coast and inland to the capital of Zagreb.

Sweden

So I don’t have many pictures to share from my previous trips to Sweden but I do have a pretty cute throwback to 2004 below. I have some family connections to the country but as an adult I’ve only been once (just a day trip from Copenhagen). I love the idea of spending some time in the summer on one of the many islands of the Stockholm archipelago joining in with midsummer celebrations! I also would like to explore Stockholm as an adult and make a visit to Gothenburg.

Now of course there are many more countries within the 35, particularly some that are outside of Europe, that I’ve been to that I want to (and will) revisit! Where have you been to that you have ‘unfinished business’ with?
