A Trip in Pictures: Banff National Park

A picture tells a thousand words right? I'm going to be taking a trip down memory lane, easily done by going through photo archives, to some of my past travels. I will tell the story with some of my favourite photos as a guide. I hope you enjoy!

On my last Instagram story (on @escapingthearmchair) I asked whether I should post one of these on Banff National Park or Australian East Coast... the winner was Banff so here we are! I visited Canada in March of 2017 for a mere 4 days! I was visiting my friend who was studying on a year abroad in Calgary - and we headed off on a road trip to the National Park.

If you are naive enough to believe that March in Canada will feel like spring, this post will probably change your mind! For a feeble Brit like myself, the temperatures were hardly bearable and the colour scheme of the scenery was largely greyscale with all of the snow and dark trees. But it definitely feels like a stunning winter wonderland, completely calm and tranquil - I'll just have to round it off by visiting one day in the summer!

Our first visit on day 1 was to Lake Minnewanka. This first picture was my first glimpse of the scenes of this huge lake. In winter, all of the lakes are iced and snowed over so fully safe to walk on - which is exactly what we did!

The below pictures are more of Lake Minnewanka. It's really hard to imagine this place without all of the snow so I'd love to see what it looks like all thawed out!

Mountain goats? Whatever they are they were blocking the road rather!

Later in the day we headed to Tunnel Mountain for an icy ascent up to the top! Any time that walking/hiking was involved (here and at Johnston Canyon) we definitely found ourselves wishing for those spikes that you attach to your walking boots. But we survived!

Amazing winter scenes at Johnston Canyon

I actually don't know where these last two pictures are but they're somewhere in Banff National Park! And too pretty not to include.

Other highlights of the trip, included below in my Instagram pictures, were Lake Louise (pics 1 and 6), Morant's Curve (for trainspotting of course, pic 4) and Emerald Lake (pic 2).

If for some reason you need more pictures, check out my Insta'd pics from the trip below!
